Surveillance and access control for FedEx's customs zone
We designed and installed a surveillance system of more than 300 cameras, two-factor access control for the high-value areas, the storage and server behind them, and all the cabling. We have supported it since handover.

What we delivered
- 300+ cameras
Platforms
Milesight, Milesight VMS, QNAP, Matrix
- More than 300 Milesight IP cameras
- Milesight VMS server with video analytics, installed and configured
- QNAP storage sized to record every camera
- Matrix access control on high-value doors: ID card plus face recognition
- Structured cabling for the whole project
- The main rack and the sub racks
- Ongoing support since handover
What FedEx needed
A customs zone has to show who went where, and when. FedEx needed surveillance and access control that meet the requirements for a customs zone, and a way to lock down the areas where high-value shipments are held, so only the right people get in and every entry is recorded.
Cameras across the whole zone
We installed more than 300 Milesight IP cameras across the zone and set up the server that runs Milesight VMS, the software operators use to watch, search and play back video. We configured its video analytics on the same server.
Recordings go to QNAP storage that we sized for the full camera count, so every camera is recorded.
Two-factor access to high-value areas
Doors to the high-value areas use Matrix access control with two factors: the person's ID card, and face recognition from the surveillance cameras. A card on its own doesn't open the door, so a lost or borrowed card isn't enough to get in.
Cabling and racks
We ran the structured cabling for the whole project and installed the main rack and the sub racks that connect the cameras, the doors, the server and the storage.
After handover
FedEx kept us on after the project. We still support the system today, so the cameras, the VMS, the storage and the access control are looked after by the team that installed them.
